Pakistan a Blessed yet Unfortunate Country

Pakistanis should not have an iota of doubt about Almighty’s blessings bestowed upon their country. This country has fertile land to grow grains, vegetables and fruits forming the building block for life form on the face of earth; that is food. It has five rivers which once flowed with glory and pride. And has got hidden treasures from marble to chromites, coal to crude, natural gas to gold. Still it remains under debt of IMF; all the time its leaders are seen begging for aid from developed countries, without an expression of embarrassment. This makes it such an unfortunate country that media analyst feel no shame in saying that if Pakistan does not get aid how will its economy survive.

Lust of mustering riches has taken this nation to the ebbs of indignity, selfishness and ignominy. Land has been blessed with the capability of taking care of its own food needs; it can also provide for those countries which are not so privileged.. Unfortunately, the land owners are eager to get paid by various housing schemes for their piece of land to become rich overnight. More damaging is the fact that they do not realize increasing food shortage in the world, which will eventually affect them as well. Inhabitants of this country are so ignorant(narrow visioned) that instead of endeavouring to increase agricultural product yield, they are looking at easy money. What good will this money be if there is no food to eat and no water to drink.

Nationalism has been replaced by egotism and culture has been molested to the fullest extent to serve personal interests. This state of mind is reflective of decreasing nationalism among masses. It is alarming to see common men identifying themselves within sects and casts , region and tribes, instead of Pakistan. History has proved that only those nations have survived which took pride in associating with country rather than tribes and languages. One of the causes of this deteriorating nationalism is inclination towards foreign culture and entertainment industry , especially those countries which historically have been against Pakistan. It is foreseen that next generation will be part of global slave community rather than sovereign Pakistanis. Gone are those days when school carnivals were garnished with national songs. Now school children are performing dances on those songs which are banned in their own country of origin. Moreover, since private channels have started telecasting 24 hours transmission, the ritual of national anthem has also been discontinued and the only time when common man listens to national anthem is on 14th August. It is not surprising to find Pakistanis’ youngsters being unaware of national anthem’s lyrics.

Thailand was a country which was importing rice for a long time. Today it is largest exporter of rice in the world. In 2004 Thai Baht was more or less equal to Pak Rupee. Today almost it is 275% more. This is reflective of Thai people’s dedication to their country. A small example of their nationalism is reflected in their every day life when all the radio and TV channels air national anthem at start and cease work. It is about the time people of Pakistan should wake up and react before it is too late, though it is quite late already.
